Cardiovascular collapse after verapamil in supraventricular tachycardia.
Five babies who presented with supraventricular tachycardia were treated with verapamil intravenously. All developed severe hypotension and two died. Verapamil should not be used in the initial management of supraventricular tachycardia in neonates.
متن کاملCycle length alternation in supraventricular tachycardia after administration of verapamil.
Four patients are reported in whom alternation ofRR cycle length before reversion to sinus rhythm occurred during the administration of intravenous verapamil. In 2 of these 4 patients, alternation of cycle lengths was associated with a changing QRS morphology. It is suggested that one patient had a reciprocating tachycardia using dual AV nodal pathways. The alternating cycle lengths in response...
متن کاملVerapamil in the treatment of paroxysmal supraventricular tachycardia
Verapamil is a novel antiarrhythmic agent which appears to act as a calcium-ion antagonist, blocking calcium transport across the myocardial cell membrane. It was given intravenously, in a dose of 10 mg, to thirty-two patients suffering from paroxysmal supraventricular tachycardia, and sinus rhythm was achieved promptly in all. Identical results were obtained in a further ten patients with supr...
متن کاملEffect of verapamil in infants with paroxysmal supraventricular tachycardia.
Twenty-nine consecutive spontaneous attacks of paroxysmal supraventricular tachycardia (PSVT) in 14 infants (mean age 4.4 months) were treated with verapamil. No infant had associated heart disease. Verapamil 1-2 mg i.v was administered over 30 seconds. The dosage varied according to the weight of the infant. Within 60 seconds sinus rhythm was obtained in 28 instances (96.5%). No significant co...
متن کاملVerapamil induced premature ventricular beats before reversion of supraventricular tachycardia.
The occurrence in 6 patients of premature ventricular beats before reversion to sinus rhythm, after the intravenous administration ofverapamil-for the treatment of supraventricular tachycardia, is reported. Four patients had pre-excitation syndromes (Wolff-Parkinson-White in I and Lown-Ganong-Levine in 3) and one patient had bradycardia-tachycardia syndrome. In the remaining patient, at previou...
